Happy Trails, the Original Shop - San Francisco, 1994

The first location of Happy Trails opened for business in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco on April 1, 1994. The shop, founded by Gretchen McMann, began as an American junk shop that offered vintage furniture, retro housewares and a floor-to-ceiling assortment of American pop culture for all ages.

Happy Trails Home, the New Shop- Oakland 2020

Happy Trails Home is the "grown-up" version of the original Happy Trails. Once an edgy floor-to-ceiling American pop culture mecca, the new shop features a more modern aesthetic with a floor-to-ceiling assortment of fun novelty gifts, retro inspired goodies, used furniture and vintage clothing. But don't be fooled! There's still an element of Happy Trails grittiness peppered throughout the new shop! The shop continues to offer the same happy-go-lucky atmosphere and yes, FREE Bazooka bubblegum with every purchase!

 About Gretchen!

Gretchen closed all 4 locations of Happy Trails in 2009 when the economy fell hard. She and her family moved to Los Angeles that year while she joined Hot Topic as the Senior Buyer of Licensed Accessories. Her family, as expected, missed the bay area and moved back to the bay in 2011. Gretchen has spent the last 8 years doing product development in the home décor industry -but finally – she’s come full circle, back to her entrepreneurial roots and back in the saddle again! Gretchen lives in Alameda, CA with her partner Julie and their 5 amazing kids: Emeline, Harlee and Chloe, Isaac and Jacob.
